A whole world to wander
Every new game generates a big open island: small towns joined by cracked highways, abandoned cars, dense forests, flower meadows, dirt flats, lakes and beaches. Zoom the camera out to take it all in, or in close for the details.
Scavenge the ruins
Walk into houses and go through what's left — crates, shelves and fridges hold canned food, cloth, bandages and scrap. Wrecked cars on the road can be stripped for parts. Everything you find has a use.
Gather & craft
Chop trees for wood, break rocks for stone, pull fiber from tall grass. Craft axes, pickaxes, clubs and spears — then a workbench, and the workbench unlocks the real toolbox.
Build your safehouse
Lay wood floors, raise walls, hang a door. Place a campfire for light and warmth, a chest for storage, and a bed that sets your respawn. Then make it home: a table and chair, a flower pot, a scrap-built lamp for the porch.
Survive the night
Days are bright and busy; nights are dark and hungry. Streetlamps pool light on the old roads, your torches and campfires hold a little ground — and the dead see farther in the dark.
The dead, in three sizes
Shambling walkers, fast runners, and brutes that hit like a truck. They wander the world day and night, they come when they smell you — and given time, they will chew through your walls.
